Melissa Haluszczak and Congressional C’s

The city of Pittsburgh has not known a Republican mayor in over 100 years. The city itself is the heart of Pennsylvania Congressional District 14, ran by Democrat Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, 9 Democratic Councilmen and women and serviced on the federal level by incumbent Democrat Mike Doyle. Voters registered as Democrats outnumber those registered as Republicans in Pittsburgh 5 to 1.

To use an Obama glittering generality, does this sound like “choice and competition” to you? Doyle himself has served in District 18 (now seated by Republican Tim Murphy) from 1995-2003 and in District 14 from 2003-today. Fifteen years is enough damage for Mr. Doyle to cause, lest we let him go on to run our district into a distaster of Jack Murtha proportions. It’s time for a change of scenery for Mr. Doyle.

Sounds like a battle to the death for any Republican with the gall to run. Fortunately for District 14, we finally have our warrior: Melissa Haluszczak of Coraopolis and co-founder of the Coraopolis Tea Party. While an “R” may appear next to her name on the ballot, Melissa is anything but your status quo Republican. Melissa is our shining light in a year of drive-by tax and spend bills at the local, state and federal levels. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell can’t keep his hands out of an abysmally negative $1.3 billion cookie jar (and growing) or out of the empty pockets of Pennsylvanians as he proposed $52 million in new taxes in June.

Congressman Doyle is a fan of taxes himself, voting in favor of Obamacare, which will tax citizens whether they buy into a health insurance plan or not. He accomplished this feat while simultaneously selling out the lives of the unborn alongside fellow professed pro-lifer, Congressman Bart Stupak in order to pass the bill. We’re all eager to see him vote in favor of cap and tax, which could potentially cost Pennsylvanias at least an additional $4000 per household per year in energy costs as a state primarily running on coal. President Obama has gone so far as to say that with his cap and trade plan, coal plants will go bankrupt, yet both Doyle and Obama pander to electrical worker unions for their votes and campaign donations.

With unemployment at over 9% across the country (in some states and cities as bad as 14%), who can afford more taxes?

Melissa pledges to do what Doyle and his ilk have refused to do: represent their constituents and their best interests. At the Southwest PA Tea Party on July 3rd, Melissa spoke with people concerned about what all of the spending will do to their wallets and how disenfranchised they feel by their elected officials. With a servant’s heart, Melissa has pledged to review all legislation to meet the criteria of the The Three C’s: Constitution, Conscience and Constituents. Most importantly, she has pledged to actually READ the bills!

Simply put, if the bill is unconstitutional, immoral in a way that would weigh on her conscience and against the wishes of her constituents, then her vote is “nay.” Melissa is not afraid to take on her party because she is a public servant and concerned citizen before she is a Republican.

She believes like so many of us that the days of party politics and bad ethics in Washington are numbered. She has stated that “Bad values in government gave us Rangol who forgot he had a $1 million home and also cheated on his taxes. Bad values in government gave us Franklin Raines who decided to overestimate the earnings of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by $6.3 million so he could take a $90 million bonus. Good values in business and good values in government are essential.”

Melissa will bring common sense policies to a political world of utter nonsense and chaos. The Pittsburgh area is dying. We have an increasing amount of seniors and youth are fleeing our city and county, seeking opportunity in other areas of the county. Yet, we keep voting in more of the same, hoping that this time that person will get it right.

We have it all wrong, Pennsylvania. It is time to stop pulling switches because there is a “D” next to the name and start listening to what the candidates have to offer. Find out the character of the candidate. Mike Doyle claims his seat is safe. When was the last time Mike Doyle came knocking at your door to shake your hand and ask for your vote? When was the last time Mike Doyle held a townhall meeting to find out how YOU wanted him to vote on legislation? What jobs, economic growth and opportunities for prosperity and affordable education and business practices has Mike Doyle brought to a district primarily made up of low to moderate income neighborhoods?

More taxes, partisan party politics, cozy relationships with unions and special interests and more of the same good ‘ol boy networks. When was the last time Mike Doyle’s vote represented YOU, YOUR best interest, YOUR voice?

This year has shown us that party is not what We the People crave. We the People want career politicians to find a new day job. We need fresh ideas, bold voices and a return to traditional, common sense, American values.

It’s time to put a new voice in Washington and in our district. A vote for Melissa this November is a vote for the type of change that the Obama Administration and Mike Doyle have failed to deliver: transparency, honesty, good business values, adherence to our Constitution and an ear to the Will of We the People.

  2. Drop by anytime Sweetie. rackoons. Your commentary on this brave lady is now being repeated in many states where Pubs would never have run. Here in Long Beach, in a huge Dem House district, Laura Richardson, the Dem is favored over Star Parker , a Christian Pub who has been on TV. People are starting to wake up and though I think Laura will win, Star is making waves. I hope your candidate does too.Blessings and keep up the good work.

  3. Thanks Glenn. I read Star’s column weekly. She is very insightful. I love how she tells her story of how she woke up one day and didn’t want to be another person on the welfare rolls anymore.
